Real Madrid on Wednesday secured a place in the finals of the Copa del Rey after thrashing Barcelona 4-0 at Camp Nou.
The competitive match stated with Carlo Ancelotti’s side mounting a spectacular comeback from their one-goal semi-final first-leg deficit, while a superb hat-trick was recorded by Karim Benzema after Vinicius Junior opened the scoring just before the break.
Interestingly, talented striker, Benzema has recently become synonymous with hat trick after netting three at the weekend against Real Valladolid in La Liga.
The repeat of the same gesture by Benzema was actually a humiliation to Barcelona on a painful night for coach Xavi Hernandez who was in front of almost 95,000 fans.
Both teams, known as rivals over the years have continued to show rivalry till date as the Los Blancos trail their arch-rivals by 12 points in La Liga and were beaten by Barca in the Spanish Super Cup final in January, but triumphed here to reach the Copa final for the first time since 2014, where they will face Osasuna.
In reaction to the excellent performance and win by the Los Blancos, Coach Carlo Ancelotti said, “It was a complete game — when you play a complete game, you win 4-0 like that,”
“This is the most important moment of the season and when we’re at the right temperature (like this), we’re good.”
Unfortunately, Barca played the match without Ousmane Dembele, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Andreas Christensen.
