Ministry Announces Return of 115 Nigerians Trafficked to Ivory Coas
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the repatriation of 115 Nigerian nationals who were victims of human trafficking in Ivory Coast.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said the returnees are expected to arrive in Lagos on a special flight scheduled to land at 3:00 p.m. at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
The Ministry expressed concern over the rising trend of human trafficking and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the protection of Nigerian citizens abroad.
While details surrounding the rescue operation remain limited, the ministry stated that it worked closely with relevant authorities in Ivory Coast to facilitate the safe return of the affected individuals.
The repatriation effort is part of ongoing initiatives to address irregular migration, human trafficking, and the exploitation of Nigerian citizens overseas.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the returnees will undergo rehabilitation or reintegration programs, but such measures are typically provided in partnership with relevant agencies.
