Lagos Gets First Female House of Assembly Speaker
Lawmaker at the Lagos House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, has been sworn in as Speaker at the state’s legislative house.
Meranda who was sworn in on Monday at the Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja, takes over the position following the impeachment Mudashiru Obasa as House Speaker.
The legislator, who held the position of Deputy Speaker, representing Apapa Constituency 01, pledged diligence, integrity as she takes over in her new role
Meranda, while taken the oath of office also said: “I affirm that I will be faithful as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. I will perform my functions honestly to the best of my ability, faithfully, and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Meranda gets the post following the removal of Obasa, who held the position of Speaker for over a decade.
