German soccer champion, Bayer Leverkusen has become the first team to finish a Bundesliga season unbeaten after defeating Augsburg 2-1.
Augsburg’s Met Komur 62nd minute goal was not enough for his team to take the day as Victor Boniface and Robert Andrich in the 12th and 17th minutes secured Leverkusen’s victory.
The feat for Leverkusen has attracted comments, especially from fans and football enthusiasts from the German club, leaving at the BayArena was in a frenzy and celebration after the season’s last game.
Last month Leverkusen lifted the Bundesliga title for the first time in their 120-year history, breaking Bayern Munich’s 11-year stranglehold on the German top flight.
This comes after Xabi Alonso’s men clinched a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen.
Three goals from Florian Wirtz and goals from Victor Boniface and Granit Xhaka extended their unbeaten run to a stunning 43 games in all competitions.
Leverkusen’s maiden title, coming after five second-place finishes in their history, keeps their dream of a remarkable treble alive while shedding their unwanted ‘Neverkusen’ nickname for good.
