A special day has been set aside in the month of October every year, to celebrate teachers all around the world for their efforts and impact in the academic sector.

In 1994, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared October to be World Teacher’s Day.

One unique thing that has characterized this year’s celebration is the theme, which has been tagged: ‘Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery.’

On the inspiration behind the theme, it recognises teachers for their tireless efforts even during times like COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns.

Another unique thing about this year’s Teacher’s Day is the acknowledgement of the sacrifices they have made in the face of the deadly COVID-19 that ravaged the whole world.

The day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO recommendation conference convened by UNESCO in cooperation with the ILO, in Paris.
