Women’s World Cup: James Gets Two Games Ban After Stamp On Alozie

A two-match ban has been given to England’s forward, Lauren James, 21, for stamping Nigerian Fullback, Michelle Alozie, in the Women’s World Cup round of 16.

According to FIFA, James will only play again in the tournament if England advances all the way to the final,.

James was shown a red card in the 87th minute of the game which Nigeria lost to England on penalties

The competitive match was stretched to extra-time after the Super Falcons made several efforts to score but their  20-shot attempts were not enough to see them to the next round.

Interestingly, Alozie on Tuesday expressed her respect for James but the later disclosed that said she would “learn from the experience” and has apologised to the Nigerian for the incident on social media and reiterated her “love and respect” for the Nigerian fullback.

She tweeted, “abeg, rest. we are playing on the world’s stage. this game is one of passion, insurmountable emotions, and moments. all respect for Lauren James.”
