Nigerian music superstar, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun aka Wizkid has made history by becoming the first African artiste to win an award at the 50th American Music Awards (AMAs).

He won the Favorite Afrobeats Artiste award at the AMAs which held on Monday, November 21 at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles.

The “Bad To Me” crooner competed with Nigerian counterparts, Burna Boy, Tems, Ckay and Fireboy DML.

The American Music Awards is offered in recognition of the most popular artistes and music within the eligibility period of September 24, 2021, through September 22, 2022.

Wizkid was congratulated in a post on the official Twitter page of the AMAs. Wizkid’s “Essence” featuring Tems also bagged an award for the Favorite R&B song category, which has American singers, Beyonce and Sza.
