VP Shettima Visits Flood-Ravaged Mokwa, Announces N2bn Aid
Vice President Kashim Shettima today assured the people of Mokwa that the Federal Government stands with them after devastating floods. He promised immediate federal intervention and a renewed commitment to disaster management.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, VP Shettima visited the community and announced a N2 billion donation along with twenty trucks of grains. He expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, stating, “Mokwa has always stood as a vital crossroads… This makes your pain a shared national burden. While this disaster is devastating, it will not define you. We will rebuild.”
Shettima conveyed President Tinubu’s direct commitment to immediate action and relief, emphasizing, “Our hearts ache for the lives lost, the homes destroyed, and the livelihoods disrupted.” Beyond immediate aid, he highlighted the government’s resolve to address ecological challenges and prevent future disasters, calling for a united national response and long-term environmental resilience.
Niger State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, thanked the federal government for its swift support, noting NEMA’s rapid response. He added that the VP’s visit reassured the community of President Tinubu’s commitment. The Etsu Nupe, HRH Yahaya Abubakar, also commended the Vice President for his personal condolence and President Tinubu’s directive for immediate interventions.
Federal Government delegation members included Information Minister Mohammed Idris and Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
