Victorious Super Falcons, President Tinubu Awaits Trophy
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have once again made history, clinching their record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title. The team’s spectacular victory has ignited national pride, with President Bola Tinubu eagerly anticipating their return to Abuja to receive the coveted trophy.
Following their triumphant win, President Tinubu personally congratulated the team during a video call with captain Rasheedat Ajibade and her teammates. He lauded their exceptional performance, stating, “I am very, very proud of you. The entire nation is proud of you. You have lifted our spirits. You are a pride to your generation and we are all very happy.” He also extended his commendations to the coaching staff, management, and officials.
The President singled out Rasheedat Ajibade for her outstanding achievement as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Woman of the Tournament. He also praised Esther Okoronkwo’s bravery in converting a crucial 64th-minute penalty kick that sparked the team’s dramatic comeback, leading to their 3-2 victory. Okoronkwo also set up the second goal and delivered the decisive free-kick.
Captain Ajibade, on behalf of the team, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for ensuring the full payment of players’ allowances and assured him of their eagerness to present the WAFCON trophy in Abuja. The celebratory call concluded with a spirited rendition of the national anthem, highlighting the joyous spirit surrounding the Super Falcons’ historic win.
