US Commendation Validates NEPZA’s Economic Reforms
The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has described the recent U.S. Congressional Commendation awarded to its Managing Director, Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, as a strong endorsement of Nigeria’s free trade zone reforms aimed at attracting foreign direct investment (FDI).
Presented by U.S. lawmakers from South Carolina and Georgia, the commendation recognizes Dr. Ogunyemi’s efforts in promoting transparency, corporate governance, and economic competitiveness within the country’s special economic zones.
Since his appointment two years ago, NEPZA says Ogunyemi has repositioned the agency for profitability, aligning with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and driving reforms that have brought in global investors and world-class enterprises.
Under his leadership, Nigeria’s free trade zones have gained international recognition, with NEPZA playing an active role in global investment platforms such as the World Free Zones Organisation (WFZO) and the Africa Economic Zones Organisation (AEZO).
Ogunyemi was recently elected to the boards of both global bodies, reflecting growing confidence in Nigeria’s economic zone strategy as a catalyst for industrialisation and export growth.
