The Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has been given to President-elect Joe Biden in the US.
After receiving his first dose of the vaccine, Mr. Biden said he was getting the jab to show Americans it is “safe to take” it.
Apart from Mr. Biden, other growing number of political leaders, others like: Vice-President Mike Pence and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, are also getting the jab.
Before this development; on Sunday, the roll-out began for a second vaccine, by Moderna, which was approved last week.
On the number of people who have received the vaccine, more than 500,000 Americans are said to have now been vaccinated.
In reaction to the development, Mr Biden from Newark, Delaware, where he got the jab live on TV said,
“I’m doing this to demonstrate that people should be prepared when it’s available to take the vaccine,” “There’s nothing to worry about.”
Speaking further, he stated that, the Trump administration “deserves some credit” for launching the country’s vaccine programme.
Meanwhile, apart from Mr Biden, his wife, Jill Biden, received her first dose earlier in the day.
Others who are expected to replicate the same gesture are: Mr Biden’s running mate, Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff.
So far, a goal of 100 million Covid-19 vaccinations in the US has been set by Mr. Biden’s administration in his first 100 days in the White House.
