A male suicide bomber this morning attacked a mosque in Borno State, killing at least five people.
The leader of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Ajiri Yala, some 15 kilometres north of Maiduguri, said the attack happened at about 4:30am.
The incident which occurred when people were gathering for early morning prayer also injured several persons.
Recent weeks have seen a renewed trend in suicide attacks by suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorist group despite claims by the military that the group has been defeated.

The police in Borno has said that two female suicide bombers were killed while trying to sneak into Maiduguri metropolis.
Public Relations Officer of the Command, Victor Isuku, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria.
Isuku said that the incident occurred Sunday evening along Maiduguri-Gamboru highway.
He said that one of the suicide bombers detonated an improvised explosive device strapped to her body and killed herself, while the other bomber was gunned down by security operatives before she detonated the bomb.
