Rafael Nadal won his third US Open and 16th Grand Slam title with a one-sided victory over South Africa's Kevin Anderson in New York.

The world number one powered to a 6-3 6-3 6-4 victory in Sunday's final at Flushing Meadows.

Nadal broke Anderson's – who is a first-time major finalist – serve several times, and never gave up a break point.

The Spaniard managed only 11 unforced errors, and won all 15 of the points he played at the net.

The win brings Nadal his 16th Grand Slam, just 3 shy of record holder Roger Federer.

Nadal’s won 1 Australian Open (2009), 10 French Open (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017), 2 Wimbledon (2008, 2010), and 3 US Open (2010, 2013, 2017).

Nadal, 31, has now won two Slams in the same year for the first time since 2013, having won the French Open in June.
