Lagos State Chief Judge, Justice Olufunmilayo Atilade yesterday granted amnesty to sixty-six inmates of the medium security prisons in Kirikiri.
Justice Atilade said the amnesty granted them was in line with the resolution of the judiciary to decongest the prisons nationwide.
In Rivers State, the Chief Judge, Justice Adama Lamikanra has set free 15 inmates of the Port Harcourt prison who were unable to meet their bail conditions in 2010, 2012 and 2016.
The chief judge of the state said the release of the inmates was done in commemoration of the state’s golden jubilee celebration.
Justice Adama -Lamikanra advised them to exhibit good character and avoid acts that will bring them to prison.
She also called on the state and Federal Governments to build modern prisons that will reform inmates.
