The Lagos State Government Ministry of Justice has finally filed criminal charges against Lekki Gardens Estate Ltd, HC insight Ltd and seven others for their involvement in the construction of the building that collapsed in the estate killing thirty-three peoples injuring others.
The information was filed on February 17 this year. The defendants are facing six count charges of failure to have approval for the collapsed building and manslaughter for contravening the state urban and regional planning and development law.
Meanwhile, the Socio-economic Rights and Accountability Project, (SERAP) has written to the Accountant –General of the Federation. Ahmed Idris, requesting him “to liaise with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami, relating to the release of over N300 billion London Paris Club loan refunds to some states.
The organisation urged the Federal Government to take steps to initiate legal action against the states that allegedly diverted and mismanaged the funds.”
The organization asked the Chief Accounting Officer to compile the details within seven days for appropriate legal action.
