The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as misleading an online publication claiming a Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the Inspector General of Police from probing the violence in the Rivers State re-run.
According to the press release by the Force PRO, Jimoh Moshood, the court did not at any point order or stop the investigation of the violence that rocked the state during the re-run legislative election on December 10, 2016.
The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris said that the police would continue with the investigation and ensure that the killers of some police officers during the election are brought to book.
He also said that all those who were involved in violence during the re-run poll would be prosecuted.
Police have since dismissed four officers found culpable over the violence. The officers were security aides of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
