The six officers are Inspector Eyong Victor (AP/No.177893 ), Sergeant Peter Ekpo ( F/No. 400872 ) Sergeant Oguni Goodluck (F/No.374585 ), Sergeant Orji Nwoke (F/No. 385870), Sergeant Okpe Ezekiel (F/No. 234216) and Sergeant Tanko Akor ( F/No. 437983).22 hours ago.
They were dismissed for misconduct, partisanship and loss of ethical behviour as police officers during the rerun election.
The Nigeria Police announced the dismissal of the six police officers arrested in connection with the alleged violence associated with the December 2016 re-run parliamentary election in the state.
The six officers attached to the convoy of the rivers governor on election day were arrested and subjected to internal disciplinary measures and were subsequently dismissed by the force.
Meanwhile, the state government has described the dismissal of the six police personnel by the Nigerian Police Force as sad.
A statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr..Austin Tam-George said the officers committed no crime other than stopping a carefully planned assassination attempt on the life of the governor.
The statement said the officers are the latest victims of the medieval authoritarianism of the ruling APC.
Meanwhile the Nigeria Army has denied allegation of aiding some politicians in Rivers State to rig the December 10 legislative rerun election in the state.
The Acting Director of Information, Ministry of Defence Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar made the denial during a media chat with journalists in Port Harcourt.
