Andy Murray beats Kei Nishikori at ATP World Tour Finals in London
Andy Murray fought back to beat Kei Nishikori in a gruelling contest and close in on a semi-final place at the ATP World Tour Finals.
The world number one, lost a tie-break but came through 6-7 (9-11) 6-4 6-4 against the Japanese fifth seed.
At three hours and 20 minutes, it was the longest match at the event since it moved to London in 2009.
Stan Wawrinka beat Marin Cilic 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-3) in the evening match to end the Croat's semi-final hopes.
Murray will face US Open champion Wawrinka in his final round-robin match on Friday.
The only way Murray can be eliminated is if he lost by a straight-sets and if Nishikori can beat Cilic in the other Group John McEnroe match.
FIFA U-20 WWC:
Falconets bounce back after opening game defeat
Nigeria bounced back from its opening day defeat at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and fought back from a goal down to beat Canada by three goals to one in Port Moresby.
Gabrielle Carle gave Canada the lead in the fifteen minute lead but Chinaza Uchendu equalized for Nigeria just before the break.
The Falconets scored two 2nd half goals by Joy Bokiri and Chinwendu Ihezuo to record their first win of the tournament.
In the other Group B result Spain piped Japan by a lone goal.
In group A Korea DPR defeated Brazil 4-2 while Sweden walloped host nation Papau New Guinea by six goals to nil.
In today’s fixtures, France will take on Ghana in a Group C encounter while New Zealand takes on USA.
Group D will see Germany battle Mexico in the first game while Korea Republic engages Venezuela.

Congo Fires Coach Pierre Lechantre
Pierre Lechantre has been sacked by the Congolese FA following a poor start to their 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The Congo FA confirmed on Tuesday that they have parted ways with the Frenchman, just three days after their loss to Uganda in a 2018 qualifier.
The Red Devils are placed last in Group E, after an opening game home defeat to Egypt.
Congo will face Ghana in a double header in the 2018 qualifiers in August and September next year.
Rohr Eyes Hungarian-Nigerian Otigba As Back Up
Hungarian-Nigerian central defender Kenneth Otigba might join the Super Eagles squad, if he impresses Gernot Rohr when the manager visits Turkey.
Otigba turned down the chance to play for Hungary in preference for Nigeria but he has been snubbed by past coaches.
Now in Turkey with Kasimpasa, he is on the list of players Coach Rohr will scout in Turkey during his visit to Istanbul.
So far he has made nine appearances in the league with one goal and four yellow cards to his name.
Eagles Donate To Elderson, Akpeyi Weddings
Players of the Super Eagles have donated over N1million Naira to the upcoming weddings of Elderson Echiejile and Daniel Akpeyi.
The players donated N50,000 each to Elderson and Akpeyi, as their own contribution to the players' weddings next month.
South Africa-based goalkeeper Akpeyi will walk down the aisle with his bride on the 29th of December in Abiriba, Abia State, while defender Elderson, will get married on the 30th, in Warri.
Both players were in action for the Super Eagles on Saturday in Uyo in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.

Floyd Mayweather was present as a pre-fight press call between Badou Jack and Britain's James DeGale got under way.
Jack and DeGale are set to face each other in a hotly anticipated super middleweight title showdown in Brooklyn.
Mayweather, was on duty as a boxing promoter, was present to oversee proceedings as the two fighters spoke about their upcoming bout in January.

At the conclusion of the Rio Games the sprinter insisted he would not be competing at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, raising the possibility that the 2017 World Championship in London would be his last major event.

FIFA-FREE WINDOW: Eagles, Senegal Clash In London
Reports indicate that the Nigeria Football Federation have secured an international friendly between the Super Eagles and their Senegal at a yet to be named stadium in London.
The Senegalese game is the second of two matches that the Eagles would play in March 2017, the first been a game against Egypt, at a yet to be disclosed venue.
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr is expected to depart the Federal Capital Territory tonight for France on vacation for an undisclosed period.
Rohr is expected to watch two of Nigeria’s group opponents in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, Cameroon and Algeria.
