The Independent National Electoral Commission earlier Thursday issued a certificate of return to Uche Ogah as the governor of Abia State.
INEC’s Director of Publicity, Oluwole Osaze-uzi, says this follows an order by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja
Mister Ogah came second at the Peoples Democratic Party primaries in the state held two years ago.
But in a swift development, Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has obtained an injunction from an Abia High Court restraining the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Theresa Uzokwe from swearing in Uche Ogah as the governor of the state.
The order issued by Justice C.C. Ahuchaogu came as an exparte motion.
It also restrained the INEC from issuing Ogah a certificate of return.
Meanwhile, Ikpeazu is still in the government house in Umuahia amidst tension in the state capital and has appealed to citizens to remain calm.
The State Government expressed surprise at the news of issuance of certificate of return to Uche Ogah by INEC.
Secretary to state government, Eme Okoro revealed that the governor filed stay of execution as well as notice of appeal by the June 27, 2016 and wondered why INEC will act on the order.
