A tenant, Mr. Tope Akideji who resides at No. 17 Ayeferere Street Ondo in Ondo State has allegedly killed his landlord, Mr. Kayode Osunkalu over outrageous electricity bill.
According to investigation,the Benin Electricity Distribution Company who is in charge of the Ondo area had brought an outrageous bill to the house based on the new tariff.
The landlord had called for a meeting with his tenants where he showed the bill to them and gave them ultimatum when to pay so that the power would not be disconnected by the BEDC.
The bill later led to disagreement between the landlord and the tenants in which Akideji punched the 75-year-old landlord to death.
Confirming this, the Ondo State Police Command said they have arrested Akideji, and that investigation is going on the case.
The deceased was rushed to the state Specialist Hospital in Ondo town, where he was later confirmed dead by the medical personnel on duty.
Speaking on the matter, the Divisional Police Officer in Enuowa Police Station, where the matter was reported, Chief Superintendent Kunle Omisakin, confirmed the incident.
Omisakin said that the suspect had been transferred to the homicide section for further investigations. Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of the state Specialist Hospital for autopsy.
