The United Nations International Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth N1.3 billion with the Niger State government.
The Chief Field Officer of UNICEF in Kaduna, Kaduna Field Office, Mr Utpal Moitra, said this in Minna at the weekend on Monday, saying the MoU is basically for the provision of basic necessities of life for children and women in the state.
According to him, the partnership between UNICEF and Niger State is about joint commitment, sharing commitment and working together so as to deliver benefits to the large number of children and women in Niger state. Moitra, who oversees three states including Niger State, stated that the cost of 1.3 billion Naira has been shared with UNICEF contributing 60% while the state government would provide 40% counterpart fund.
He explained that the agreement was reached following the continued partnership between the Federal Government of Nigeria and UNICEF as well as the states which include Niger State.
