If it is possible for the National Assembly to quickly amend the Procurement Act to give priority to Nigerian products over foreign products, then most gifts for the coming Valentine’s Day will be “Made in Nigeria.”

The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki was in Aba, Abia State to see Made in Nigeria products and was amazed with the level of creativity.

He said, “It was amazing to see the ingenuity and quality of Nigerian made products. I promise that the National Assembly would work on amending the Procurement Act by changing the word "may" to "shall" to ensure that Nigerian products are given first priority over their foreign counterparts in the procurement process.”

Before now, the former Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatude Fashola who is now the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, had always campaigned for Made in Nigeria products.

At the trade fair in Aba, some of the products displayed were valentine gifts, which could be presented to loved ones.

There were locally made engagement rings by Nigerian gold smiths, Made in Nigeria fabrics, shoes, and diverse colours of shirts, skirts in cotton and polyesters.
