Following ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter that indicted the National Assembly, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that the elder statesman once gave bribe to the federal lawmakers to lobby for a third term in office.
According to a statement in response to Obasanjo’ letter by Melaye, there was an open display of that bribery money on the floor of the House nine years ago to implement Obasanjo third term agenda.
Melaye said that though he respects ex-president Obasanjo, he disagreed that the 8th Assembly is corrupt like the one who worked with the elder statesman.
As he put it in the statement, “I have tremendous respect for President Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo, elder statesman, respected pan-Africanist and committed patriot.
Our leader has mistaken the 8th National Assembly as the same National Assembly that defrauded him in 2007; that is those who collected his money and refused to implement the third term agenda.
“I appeal to Baba that we are not the ones please. After nine years of that bribery saga, the first of its kind, I expect forgiveness to have taken place.
