More than 300 shops were razed by fire Tuesday morning at the Railway Station Market in Kaduna.

According to eyewitnesses, the inferno began at about 1am burnt till dawn before men of the state fire service could put it out.

Railway Station Market is the main hub of fruits, grains, chicken and plastic but has been reduced to heaps of ruins with virtually everything in sight completely burnt.

Commenting, the Chairman of the market traders association, Ibrahim Musa, confirmed to our correspondent that more than N200 million worth of goods were lost to the inferno.

He said, “The fire started from an electricity spark from one of the containers and we heard explosions which started the fire.’’

Reacting, Head of the market security, Danladi Rabiu, said although fire fighters from the state office and Nigerian Breweries responded early to the distress call sent to them, their efforts was minimal in containing the fire outbreak.

“Men of the state fire service came on time but they were unable to put out the fire as their truck developed fault and we had to use buckets to put off the fire,” he said.
