The 2016 Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday morning and no black actors were up for nominations.

Many stars have poured out their frustrations including actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who suggests people should boycott The Oscars. The host Chris Rock released a 15-second promo video captioning the Academy Awards as the “White BET Awards”.

There are quite a few stars who should have been nominated, although Beasts of No nation received SAG, BAFTA, and Golden Globe nominations. The film didn’t receive any nominations and neither did actor Idris Elba. With his performance in Beasts of No nation he definitely should have been nominated for best supporting actor.

Same goes with Will Smith who should have been nominated for best actor in NFL film Concussion.

Creed which was written by a black man named Ryan Coogler, and stared a black actor Michael B. Jordan, but the only nominee the film received was for a white man. Straight Outta Compton was also overlooked as it should have been nominated for best picture. Nominations they received was again for two Caucasians for its screenplay.

Social media also went into a frenzy with a hashtag #OscarSoWhite with people also expressing their frustrations.

The Oscars is set to air on February 28, 2016
