The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has given reasons why it cannot arrest ex-president Goodluck Jonathan despite that he authorized the release of some funds in the ongoing arms purchase scam.
Chairman of EFCC Mr Ibrahim Magu said that Jonathan could not be arrested because no document has been traced that he approved the disbursement of the money for any purpose other than arms purchase.
He said this at a news conference with online publishers in Lagos on Monday, adding that those that had been arrested and invited for questioning were allegedly involved in the diversion of the funds meant for arms purchase to another thing.
“All approvals by former president Jonathan did not mention that it was for political purposes,” he noted.
Magu also disclosed that one of the beneficiaries, the former Military Administrator of Kaduna State, Mr. Jafaru Isah had returned N100m out of the N170m he collected and was given administrative bail to source for the balance of N70m.
