The Lagos State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on Tuesday appealed that teachers should be carried along in planning school curriculum, to enhance learning and proper implementation.
The NUT’s Deputy Chairman, Mr Adesina Adedoyin, said this in Lagos that the involvement of teachers in the planning of curriculum was very important.
“Teachers should be carried along for proper implementation and planning of the curriculum, to improve on the learning system,’’ he said.
According to the official, suitable norms and values of the nation should be considered while planning the curriculum, to impact positively on learning in the country.
Adedoyin said that much emphasis had been laid on norms and values that were alien to our culture while planning the curriculum.
The unionist said that such development had made children to lose touch of the nation’s rich culture and heritage.
“Children are no longer disciplined.
“Unlike those days, if a child should misbehave, the mention of reporting such child to the teachers sends fear to such a child,’’ he said.
The deputy chairman also urged the government to employ graduates who understood the pedagogy of teaching, to achieve the desired standards.
“Leave education to the educationists who have the passion for teaching, and not someone seeking for an employment opportunity,’’ Adedoyin said. (NAN)
