It appears that former Governor of Rivers State and a ministerial nominee, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi may not be confirmed by the senate despite that he had been screened by the upper chamber.

The senators from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party objected the plan by the senate to confirm him on Thursday.

Following the announcement made by the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki to conform the 18 screened nominees, including Amaechi on Thursday, the PDP lawmakers kicked vehemently kicked against it.

Their argument was that Amaechi could not be confirmed until the report of Samuel Anyanwu – led Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions on Rotimi Amaechi, is considered.

Speaking through the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, PDP, Ekiti South, the opposition said that it was necessary that the Senate tabled the Anyanwu report for consideration before going into the confirmation of the nominees.

Among the 19 minister nominees listed on the Senate Order Paper for confirmation today, Amaechi’s name is the last, fueling speculation that the former Rivers State helmsman may have difficulty scaling the process.

At the moment, the Senate is screening the nominees for the INEC jobs.
