Following the appointment of Mahmood Yakubu as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, here are eight facts you probably did not know about the Professor of Political History and International Studies.
Yakubu, a Professor of Political History and International Studies, was Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund. He was the first academic to ever head TETFund.
He is an expert in guerrilla warfare, terrorism and counter-terrorism. He was an Assistant Secretary, Finance and Administration, at the 2014 National Conference under the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
He is the first and only 1st class graduate of History from the North till date. He was a lecturer of ‘War and Society in Pre-Colonial Africa’ at the Nigeria Defense Academy, NDA, before he was seconded to the Federal Ministry of Education.
He was a member of the Oby Ezekwesili Educational Transformation Team. He was the Assistant Secretary of Finance and Administration at Nigeria’s National Conference Secretariat in 2014.
