The University of Lagos, Akoka was shut on Monday as students barricaded the two entrance gates in protest against the invasion of bed bugs and mosquitoes into their hostels.

The protest, according to one of the students was planned at the weekend and carried out on Monday to stop any academic activity on the campus.

Some of the students were sitting in front of their hostels with their mattresses laid on the walls. Some were seeing with insecticides to kill the bed bugs.

The students complained that the hostels were not being properly maintained by the university management, saying that this had led to invasion of rodents and insects into the hostels.

“We have notified the authority about this but nothing has been done about it,” a student said.
