The All Progressives Congress (APC) has leveled more accusations at Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of bankrolling activities of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the new dispensation with the lean resources of the state.
APC alleged Wike has obtained a loan on behalf of the state government running into "hundreds of millions of Naira" out of which he used a lion share of it to bribe PDP hierarchy to move the party's retreat, which was originally billed for Akwa Ibom State, to now hold in Rivers State.
"It is clear that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has concluded plans to fritter away the meagre resources of Rivers state as the party has decided to relocate its headquarters from Abuja to Port Harcourt," Chris Finebone, APC Rivers Secretary, alleged.
He said during the retreat held by the leadership of the PDP, which took place in the state capital barely 72 hours after Wike was sworn-in as the Governor, the outgoing Senate President, David Mark, had declared that the state had now become the headquarters of the opposition with the governor as the face of opposition.
"We are not in doubt as to why Gov. Wike whose mandate is to be decided by the courts decided to host the parley for the party which lost favour with Nigerians after 16 years of dismal performance," said Finebone.
"The APC would like to ask Rivers people whose right to choose a credible governor as well as representatives were brazenly trampled upon during the last general elections, to rise up immediately to the occasion to stop this impunity."
APC is contesting the election of Wike as governor, citing irregularities.
Some local and international observers also rejected the conduct of the polls.
Comment could not be obtained from the PDP.
