Two Dispatch Riders Killed in Fatal Mack Truck Collision on Eko Bridg
Two dispatch riders lost their lives on Sunday in a tragic accident involving two fully loaded Mack trucks on Lagos’ Eko Bridge.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the crash occurred when one of the trucks, allegedly speeding and with the driver reportedly dozing off behind the wheel, lost control and rammed into another moving truck ahead.
The impact of the collision caused a 20-foot container to fall from one of the trucks, crushing the two dispatch riders who were navigating the bridge at the time. Both victims were confirmed dead at the scene.
LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, said preliminary investigations indicate driver fatigue and excessive speed as key contributing factors to the crash. Emergency responders were promptly deployed to the scene to manage traffic and recover the accident vehicles.
Authorities have urged commercial drivers, particularly those operating heavy-duty vehicles, to adhere strictly to road safety regulations and avoid driving while fatigued to prevent further loss of life.
