Troops of the Nigerian Army have raided a suspected Eastern Security Network (ESN) camp in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State, killing one suspected militant and recovering a cache of weapons and cash.

The raid, which occurred on Friday in the Ebubengwa/Abayi Nchokoro area, reportedly led to a fierce gun battle, during which the militants fled the scene under heavy fire, leaving blood trails behind. A situation report from the 144 Battalion (Rear) confirmed that one ESN member was killed, while an officer and a soldier sustained injuries during the operation.

The troops recovered a significant arsenal, including:

One rocket-propelled grenade (RPG)

One general-purpose machine gun (GPMG)

Four AK-47 rifles

One G3 rifle

Three pump-action shotguns

800 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition

648 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition

Additionally, the troops seized N11.75 million and $27,000 in cash, as well as logistics and communication equipment believed to be used by the group.

Military authorities say the operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle separatist armed groups and restore peace in the South-East region.
