Tornado Kills Five, Damages Over 5,000 Buildings in Missour

A powerful tornado tore through parts of St. Louis, Missouri, on Friday evening, killing at least five people and causing widespread devastation, local officials confirmed Saturday.

The storm, which carved a path along a major roadway, ripped roofs off homes, uprooted trees, and downed power lines. Over 5,000 buildings were reported damaged in what authorities have described as one of the most destructive weather events to hit the area in recent years.

The Missouri Fire Department carried out house-by-house searches overnight in the worst-affected neighborhoods, ensuring no one was trapped under debris or in collapsed structures.

Approximately 100,000 properties were left without power following the storm. Utility crews are currently working to restore electricity, but officials say it could take several days in the most severely impacted zones.

The U.S. National Weather Service confirmed that at least six other tornadoes touched down across Missouri and neighboring Illinois as part of a broader severe weather system moving through the Midwest.

Emergency response teams remain on high alert, with shelters opened for displaced residents. Missouri Governor Mike Parson has declared a state of emergency and pledged state-level assistance for search and recovery efforts.

The National Weather Service continues to monitor conditions as more storms are forecast in the coming days.
