France on Sunday beat South Africa 4-3 in the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic games that started three days ago.

It was a high-scoring Group A encounter at Satamai Stadium as Andre-Pierre Gignac scored a second-half hat-trick in a match that France came from behind three times to score a late winner to grab a 4-3 victory over South Africa.

While Teji Savanier did a good job to secure an injury-time winner, former Marseille striker Gignac brought a turnaround for France after completing his treble from the penalty spot to level for a third time on 85 minutes.

France, having lost their Group A opener, decided to take destiny into their hands to achieve the feat, especially since the situation looked as if it they were heading out.

At the moment, Gignac who currently plays for Tigres in Mexico has achieved the feat of becoming the top scorer in Tokyo with four goals from two matches.

The unfortunate situation of South Africa not being able to defend the three goals they scored through second-half goals from Kobamelo Kodisang, Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena, has dwindled hopes of qualifying for the next round.

As for the host, Japan, the Asian country’s 2-1 win against Mexico has increased their number of wins to two.
