In a bold move to close the drug access gap in underserved communities, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched the MediPool Project, a major step under his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh, hailed the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) approval of the initiative as a gamechanger for healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

“Imagine a Nigeria where no child dies due to lack of vaccines, and every health facility no matter how remote has life-saving drugs. That future begins now with MediPool,” Dr. Ewalefoh said.

MediPool, part of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, will centralize the procurement and distribution of medicines and vaccines using a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO). The goal is to boost efficiency, cut costs, and ensure equitable access especially in remote areas.

“With MediPool, President Tinubu is restoring hope to neglected regions. Access to essential medicine is now a right, not a privilege,” he added.

Alongside MediPool, the FEC also approved two strategic PPP projects

Ikere Gorge Hydropower Project (Oyo State): Reviving a project dating back to the 1970s, this initiative will generate 6MW of power, provide potable water, and support irrigation in Iseyin, Saki, and surrounding communities.

Borokiri Coastal Fisheries Terminal (Rivers State): Aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fishery value chain, this terminal will improve cold-chain logistics, boost exports, and create new jobs.

Ewalefoh reaffirmed ICRC’s commitment to regulatory oversight, transparency, and global PPP standards, noting that the projects reflect President Tinubu’s broader vision for inclusive economic growth and infrastructure renewal.
