TINUBU SWEARS IN FIVE PERMANENT SECRETARIES, INAUGURATES NPC CHAIRMAN AND BOARD MEMBERS

ABUJA, NIGERIA — President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday formally administered the oath of office to five new Permanent Secretaries and the new leadership of the National Population Commission (NPC) during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the Presidential Villa.

The newly sworn-in Permanent Secretaries include: Dr. John Chidiebere Ezeamama (Imo State), Ibrahim Abdulkarim Ozi (Nasarawa State), Dr. Abdul Sule Usman Garba (North Central), Dr. Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed (North East), and Dr. Binyerem Chigbonwu Ukaire (South East). They are expected to bring their extensive experience from various sectors, particularly the medical field and federal civil service, to their new roles.

Alongside the Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Aminu Yusuf was sworn in as the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC). Dr. Yusuf, 65, holds a doctorate in International Relations and previously obtained degrees in Biology and International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He was inaugurated alongside two other members of the NPC Board, Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu and Tonga Betara Bulatafa.

The new appointees boast impressive professional backgrounds. For instance, Dr. Ezeamama and Dr. Garba are medical doctors who rose through the ranks after beginning their careers at the State House Medical Centre. Dr. Ezeamama, 54, holds an MBBS from UNN and training from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London, while Dr. Garba, 56, is a Primary Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons. Similarly, Dr. Ukaire is also a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) and holds an MSc. in Public Health.

The financial and administrative sector is represented by Ibrahim Abdulkarim Ozi, 57, who holds a B.Sc. in Accounting from Bayero University, Kano, and previously served as the Director of the Inspectorate Department at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation. Dr. Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed, 57, brings expertise in veterinary science, holding a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The swearing-in marks a significant step in reinforcing the federal civil service leadership and solidifying the command structure of the NPC, which is crucial for upcoming national planning and potential census activities. The President tasked them with ensuring efficiency and commitment in implementing the government’s agenda.
