Tinubu Prioritizes Security, Shettima Goes to G20 Summit in South Africa

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the prestigious G20 Leaders’ Summit, being held this weekend in Johannesburg, South Africa.

President Tinubu made the strategic decision to remain in Nigeria to personally attend to pressing national security concerns following recent incidents in Kebbi and Kwara States. The President had postponed his initially scheduled trip to await comprehensive security briefings.

The G20 Summit, hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa (who currently holds the G20 presidency), is a crucial gathering. It brings together leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, along with representatives from the European Union, the African Union, and global financial institutions.

The summit is scheduled to take place this Saturday and Sunday, November 22nd and 23rd, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
VP Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation, showcasing the nation’s commitment to global economic cooperation, even as the Presidency tackles critical domestic challenges head-on. The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria immediately following the conclusion of the engagements.
