Tinubu loyalists launch President ‘grassroots’ re-election drive in Kogi

The pro-government political group, the City Boy Movement (CBM), has vowed to launch a “total mobilisation” across Nigeria’s Kogi State to support the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The announcement marks an early escalation in political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the movement begins ratifying its leadership across Nigeria and its diaspora chapters.

Newly appointed state director Mark Ogah described his role as a “call to sacrifice,” promising to move the “Renewed Hope” agenda from the state capital into every local government and ward.

Strategic alignment
The City Boy Movement—a high-profile support group with close ties to the presidency—is seen as a key vehicle for consolidating Mr Tinubu’s base. Mr Ogah notably expressed gratitude to the movement’s Grand Patron, Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, whose involvement in the group has highlighted its influence within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

A central pillar of the group’s strategy in Kogi is “political continuity.” By backing Governor Ododo alongside the President, the movement argues it can ensure a seamless link between state and federal development projects.

Eyes on 2027
While the next general election is still more than a year away, the ratification of state directors suggests the APC’s support networks are already moving into an operational phase.

“We will work relentlessly to consolidate continuity and stability,” Mr Ogah said in a statement on Sunday, adding that the Kogi chapter would be “strategically positioned” to defend the administration’s record.

The move comes at a sensitive time for the administration, as it seeks to maintain public support amid significant economic reforms and a challenging security landscape across the Middle Belt and Northern Nigeria.
