Tinubu Hails Buhari’s Enduring Legacy of Integrity, Discipline at Book Launch

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, October 15th, 2025, paid a moving tribute to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a leader who embodied “quiet strength, discipline, and an enduring grace rooted in service,” during the launch of Buhari’s biography in Abuja. Speaking as a political partner and friend, President Tinubu underscored that the true measure of a leader is “what persists when the sirens fall silent,” noting that Buhari left behind a reputation for integrity and a spartan lifestyle.

Addressing a distinguished audience, which included Her Excellency Aisha Buhari and members of the late President’s family, President Tinubu extended the nation’s gratitude, stating that the Buhari name will continue to inspire noble service for generations. He emphasised the historic political journey they shared, which culminated in the landmark 2015 victory that unseated an incumbent president and “reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.” He proudly noted that the coalition they built has since become the fastest-growing political party in Africa.

President Tinubu highlighted that the new biography serves to reinforce public memory by presenting an honest account of Buhari’s life, including both achievements and flaws, which he said should motivate future leaders to “learn lessons rather than repeat slogans.”

He distilled the late leader’s impact into four enduring pillars of his legacy: humility, citing Buhari’s preference for simplicity and the belief that a leader must first discipline himself; security, acknowledging the investments made in platforms and personnel to improve the capacity of the armed services; vision, pointing to the long-term thinking that led to the construction of bridges, restoration of railways, and modernisation of infrastructure; and social justice, reflected in targeted social investments for the poor and vulnerable.

President Tinubu committed his administration to honouring and building upon this foundation, stating that a legacy only becomes alive when successors choose to continue what has been started. He recalled the lessons learned from their shared political journey, stressing that cooperation across differences is wisdom and that “nation-building demands that we compete passionately and govern responsibly.”

He concluded with a call for unity, reiterating that Nigeria is greater than any tribe, language, faith, or political party, and lauded the book for reminding the nation that a life lived with restraint and responsibility can inspire a nation. He promised to honour the late President not just by invoking his name but “by delivering results with discipline, compassion, and resolve,” and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.
