Three Katsina PDP Reps Defect to APC, Raising Tenth Assembly Party Switches to 27

The political landscape in Nigeria’s House of Representatives shifted further on Thursday as three members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Katsina State formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Their defection, announced during plenary, brings the total number of lawmakers who have switched party allegiance since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly on June 13, 2023, to 27.

Of the 27 defections so far:

24 lawmakers have left the PDP, Labour Party (LP), and New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to join the APC.

1 lawmaker moved from LP to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

2 LP lawmakers have crossed over to the PDP.

The latest defections are seen as a further consolidation of the APC’s dominance in the National Assembly, boosting its numbers and potential influence over legislative decision-making.

Party leaders from the APC welcomed the new members, citing a shared vision for national development, while the PDP is yet to issue an official response.
