Students Protest Name Change at The Polytechnic Ibadan

STUDENTS PROTEST NAME CHANGE AT THE POLYTECHNIC IBADAN

Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, on Tuesday staged a protest against the recent decision by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to rename the institution.

The governor had announced that the school would now be known as Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan, in honour of the late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, the first Ibadan-born governor of the old Oyo State.

The protest erupted in the early hours, with students blocking the main gate of the institution and barricading the busy Sango–Eleyele Road. This action disrupted vehicular movement and left commuters, residents, and travellers stranded for hours.

Staff members were also caught in the gridlock, as many could not gain access to the campus.

As of the time of filing this report, security personnel have been deployed to maintain order, while government officials are yet to make a formal response to the students’ demands.
