Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has beaten Matteo Berrettini in the 2021 French Open teed up a French Open semi-final with Rafael Nadal.
It was a remarkable moment as the match was stopped to ensure fans could leave before an 11pm curfew in Paris, BBC reports.
In front of 5,000 fans which were allowed to watch the night session of the match, the Italian, Berrettin was beaten by Serbia’s Djokovic who won the opening two sets, leaving him on course to complete victory.
Another interesting aspect of the match was when Berrettini won a third-set tie-break, forcing an exodus greeted by loud boos.
The zeal to take the day continued in the match when the world number one wrapped up a 6-3 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 win, when they both returned.
Djokovic was not only on top of his game but complimented his third match point with ecstatic celebrations.
There is an anticipation of more exciting moments from fans and enthusiasts of the game as Djokovic prepares to face his rival, Nadal.
On his ambition at the moment, Nadal is aiming for a record-extending 14th title at Roland Garros.
In their careers, both of them will be meeting for the 58th time, as the one who emerges winner will face Greek fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or German sixth seed Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final.
