England started their World Cup 2022 qualifiers with a 5-0 win against San Marino at Wembley on Thursday.
Before the game started, Gareth Southgate’s side were prepared for a win despite the fact that captain Harry Kane started on the bench.
Despite the win, England had a very poor finishing after being encamped in San Marino territory for the entire game.
On how the goals came, James Ward-Prowse’s first goal for England, swept in from Ben Chilwell’s low cross, gave them the lead after 14 minutes before Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled the advantage seven minutes later with a header from a fine Reece James delivery.
Another talented player, Raheem Sterling, secured the third goal before half-time when his shot was deflected in at the near post and Calvert-Lewin scored his second with a simple finish, laid on by Jesse Lingard, eight minutes after the break.
The dominance and creativity of England reduced but Watkins decided to add some form of motivation to the team. This was a plus for him crisp because it was his first cap crowning it with a goal.
