Coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has branded the idea of having a quota of players from the Nigeria Professional Football League in the Super Eagles as an idea that won’t work.

Followers of the NPFL ‎have been advocating for the coach to hand a certain quota to players playing in the local league in Nigeria with many accusing him of relying on foreign based players even for games that can be prosecuted by players in the local league.

The accusations got the attention of the NFF who are now proposing a clause in the deal of the coach, that will see him scout the local scene in search of players, something he isn’t against but has always insist that he will have the final say on who get calls up.

Reacting to the request to have a certain quota for the senior national team, an aide of the coach said he dismissed it with laughter saying no where in the world are players picked for the sake of where they play and not for their abilities.

He said Rohr will continue to pick the best players for Nigeria regardless of where they play and the home base players can be a part of the team if they prove themselves when called up to the team.
