Evander Holyfield says he is ready to make a return to the boxing ring after over eight years away.

Holyfield, now 57, wants to reignite an old rivalry with New Yorker Riddick Bowe.

It would be the fourth time the pair have met in the ring should the fight go ahead.

Bowe beat Holyfield twice, losing once over a three-year period from 1992 to 1995.

A quick turnaround, however, doesn’t look simple with Holyfield admitting that there was interest in hosting the fight in Japan, but that hasn’t progressed.

Holyfield retired from boxing after beating Brian Nielsen in Copenhagen in 2011. A comeback would be some feat, not least because of how long he has been out of action.

George Foreman made the most famous boxing comeback when he became world heavyweight champion at the age of 45 by beating Michael Moorer in 1994.

That came a full 20 years after his legendary Rumble in the Jungle with Muhammad Ali in 1974.Foreman’s final fight came in 1997 when he was 48.
