Chelsea are set to confirm Frank Lampard as their new manager this week.

According to a reliable source,  the former England international has been in talks with Chelsea on more than one occasion about becoming their new boss and that an announcement should be made soon.

Former Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba had already stated that negotiations were under way at the weekend while talking to fans during an Instagram video.

Asked who will be the best person to replace Maurizio Sarri, who left for Juventus last week, Drogba replied: “The one who is in talks now to get the job – Frank Lampard.”

Lampard still has two years remaining at his contract at Derby and the Championship club have insisted they are yet to be formally approached by Chelsea over his release.

Derby will be owed £4m in compensation once Lampard make the switch to Stamford Bridge, while they might ask for more should assistants Jody Morris and Chris Jones go with him to west London.

It has been reported that Chelsea will announce Lampard within the next 48 hours, but the club did not comment when contacted this morning.

Lampard was away with his family on holiday in France last week but is now due back in the country to resolve his future.
