Southern Kaduna Senator Sunday Katung Defects From PDP To APC
Abuja, Nigeria – The Senator representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, Sunday Katung, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement personally signed and released on Saturday, Katung said his decision was driven by a “genuine desire to serve his constituency better” and to align with policies that would enhance development in Southern Kaduna.
The defection marks a major political shift in Kaduna politics, coming less than 24 hours after the Federal High Court in Abuja stopped the PDP from holding its 2025 National Convention, citing internal disputes within the party.
Political observers say Katung’s move could strengthen the APC’s influence in Southern Kaduna — a region traditionally seen as a PDP stronghold.
As of press time, the APC leadership in Kaduna State had welcomed the defection, describing it as “a positive step toward building a stronger and more inclusive party.”.
