SOLUDO ORDERS ONE-WEEK CLOSURE OF ONITSHA MAIN MARKET OVER SIT-AT-HOME NONCOMPLIANCE

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the closure of the Onitsha Main Market for one week following traders’ failure to comply with the state government’s directive to disregard the Monday sit-at-home order.

The directive was issued on Monday during an on-site visit to the market by the governor, accompanied by some of his aides and other government officials.

Governor Soludo warned that the closure could be extended if traders continue to defy the directive. He added that security agencies have been deployed to seal the market and ensure full enforcement of the order.

The governor described the action as the latest—and perhaps most drastic—measure in an ongoing struggle over the control of economic activities in the South-East.
