London, UK – Super Eagles forward Moses Simon has expressed immense joy after helping Nigeria clinch the Unity Cup 2025 title, marking his first trophy with the national team since his debut a decade ago.
Nigeria secured the win in dramatic fashion on Saturday, edging Jamaica 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time at the GTech Community Stadium in Brentford, London.
Simon was a standout performer, opening the scoring for Nigeria and converting his penalty in the shootout, playing a crucial role in the Super Eagles’ second Unity Cup victory — 21 years after they won the inaugural edition against the same opponent.
“Winning my first trophy with Nigeria means a lot to me,” Simon said post-match. “It’s been a long journey since my debut, and this is a moment I’ll cherish forever.”
The 29-year-old Nantes winger, who made his national team debut in 2015, has now earned 72 caps and scored nine goals for the Super Eagles. He was also a key part of the squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast earlier this year.
Simon’s performance in the Unity Cup caps off a stellar club season, where he recorded eight goals and 10 assists in 35 appearances for FC Nantes, showcasing his consistency and creative prowess.
The Unity Cup victory also marks the first title under new head coach Eric Chelle, adding to the team’s momentum ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
